This elegant Victorian duplex oil lamp, dating to the late 19th century (c. 1880–1900), features a beautifully moulded turquoise opaline glass reservoir, mounted on a classical brass column with decorative detailing, and set into a black ebonised base.

The lamp is fitted with a Duplex burner, produced by the well-known Duplex brand, a respected Victorian manufacturer renowned for its twin-wick burners designed to produce a stronger, steadier light than standard single-wick lamps. Duplex lamps were widely used in both domestic and commercial interiors during the late Victorian period.

This piece has a pleasing sense of proportion and weight, and would make a striking addition to a period interior, library, hallway console, or cabinet display.

Condition:

In good antique condition overall, with expected signs of age and use consistent with a piece of this period, including light surface wear to the metalwork and base. The glass reservoir is intact and presents well.

The burner mechanism and wick are untested, and the lamp is therefore offered as a decorative antique rather than as a working light source.
